Community engagement has been huge with an openness shown by BBMP to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the community. The MoU means that community is equally responsible for the lake with shared responsibilities with the government agency.

In addition to this, there are groups of citizens working on different lakes under one umbrella so that sharing of information and good practices can happen within different groups. The umbrella organizations for lakes in Bangalore:

1. One Bengaluru For Lakes

2. Friends of Lakes

3. Save Bangalore Lakes

In additions there are several groups working on individual lakes:

1. Mahadevpura Parisara Samrakshane Mattu Abhivrudhi Samiti (MAPSAS)-Sarjapur-Bellandur road lakes

2. PNLIT for Puttenahalli lake

3. Ibbalur lake group

4. Agara Lake group

5. Vidyaranyapura lake

6. JalaPoshan- Jakkur lake

7. Chinnappanahalli Lake Development trust and United Way of Bengaluru

8. Munnekolalu Lake Trust and United Way of Bengaluru

9. Swami Vivekananda Seva Abhivruddi Samsthe- Doddakannenahalli lake
